Web Pages

Introduction

Over the past year, I have had numerous questions from friends and family regarding the creation and maintainence of their own web site.

To answer those queations most efficiently, I have created this "Web Pages" section. In it, I have documented my own activities and, in particular, have created several "how to" pages which give details on doing some particular task. The focus has been, and still is, to make interesting web pages, not to create stand-alone computer programs. Several reference and/or tutorial sources, are given where appropiate.

The ultimate result of my own actions are this web site ( Retirement101) and other websites, such as:

Free Web Site
The first question that I always get is how do I get a web site of my own and how much will it cost. The answer to that major question is in the "free website" section, along with notes to help anyone do it easily.

HTML
The most important tool for creating web pages is HTML. That was the reason for it's invention. My initial studies were from several cheap texts on HTML 3.2 which I obtained on sale from Comp USA. These covered the real basics of HTML programming.

There is now an HTML 4.0, the current state-of-the-art. I will at times use some of these tricks, as needed, but the main tools in this web site will be from HTML 3.2.

To see my interpretation of the HTML, just look at the source code on any of the web pages on this site.

Pictures
There are several tricks in putting your pictures on to your web page. This page outlines most of the important alternates.

Animated GIF Pictures
You can add lots of action and interest to your website by using antimated GIF files which you prepare yourself. ( See the "Computer Ghost" at the top of this page.) Check out this section for details as to how it is done.

Java Script

Note that the font color and size are established in HTML before the script tag.

Java
Wow !! Java is hard. I am making some small progress and will share with you what I have learned. I also will give you references to the best tutorials that I have found. Also included are references to free Java Applets you can use on your site.

Tips
Before actually starting to prepare your web site, I suggest you review the notes contained in the "tips" pages. These should help.
